Chapter Committee

At this meeting up to ten (10) members will be elected to Chapter Committee and will be charged with the responsibility of running the Chapter of the next year.

Nominations are hereby called for this position.

Federal Council

The Victorian Chapter of IMC is entitled to elect 2 representatives to Federal Council. One of the representatives is ex officio the Chapter President; and (1) single member will be elected directly to IMC Federal Council by members at the AGM.

(If no nomination is received at the AGM, then Chapter Committee shall elect one of their number to act as the second Victorian nominee on Federal Council.)

Federal Council forms the Board of the Institute of Management Consultants Ltd (a company limited by guarantee) and members of Federal Council become directors of IMC Ltd.

Presentation - "The Benefits and Traps of Using Insurance for Risk Management"

Bill HoggPresenter: Bill Hogg from IMC ProPak Broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson

Our speaker is Bill Hogg.  Bill is a Divisional Manager of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Pty Ltd (JLTA) in Victoria, responsible for business development within their Affinity Schemes area.  JLTA are a multinational and the third largest broker in Australia.  Bill has worked extensively in the Australian, UK and US markets.  With a career covering 44 years in the insurance industry he has built a unique perspective around reinsurance broking, risk management, and claims management and in particular in understanding and working with the members of over 100 Professional Associations and Institutes Australia wide.

You will learn:

  • The state of the insurance market, the effect of the GFC and future trends with premiums,
  • What insurance products are available and how can they be applied as risk mitigations?
  • The terms of the trade you need to understand; the aggregate versus the single claim limit, hold harmless, back to back agreements, subrogation, repudiation of rights, admission of liability, certificates of currency?
  • How to compare agreements?
  • What are the hidden traps?
  • What underwriters look for when profiling risk around PI applications?
  • What must you declare?
  • How does the risk profile change with experience?
  • What is different when working in the USA and Canada?
  • The importance of key documents when bidding for work; proposals, terms and conditions, contracts, letters of engagement etc.
  • The subtleties of corporate structures,
  • How can you manage PI risk if you employ contractors or sub contractors?
  • What does a Certificate of Currency mean and how far can they be relied upon?
  • What to do if you have a claim against your PI policy?

Bill will use a number of real life case studies to support his presentation.
